Shelsea Brown: Chinatown
  • Shelsea Brown commented on: Chinatown - February 12

It was great exploring another Chinatown besides in my home island of Oahu.

I found $5 parking on College and N. Spring St. Good inexpensive Chinese food for $3.25 (choice of chow mein/chow fun/fried rice + two sides + sweet N sour soup) at Hop Woo BBQ & Seafood Restaurant on Broadway & College. Also, inexpensive veggie flavored crackers, haw flakes (red disc-shaped sugary treats stacked and wrapped in red & green paper), nori (seasoned seaweed), and Chinese green tea. All for under $7! That's cheaper than Marukai Supermarket in Gardena (google it).

I also stopped by an herbal shop and they had all kinds of bottled remedies for every cold, and ache. The Chinese dude didn't like me asking so many questions though.

Further east down Broadway, I checked out this other shop that sold dozens of dried shark fin's. I've never tried shark fin soup before, but I think I will now.
